Net asset value (NAV)

What NAV measures, when it is published, and why our NAV date is shown next to every premium/discount figure.
NAV per share is the fund's total assets minus its liabilities (including any borrowings), divided by the number of common shares outstanding. Most listed CEFs calculate it after each U.S. trading day and publish it through the sponsor's website and the Nasdaq NAV symbol service.
NAV lags price by design: during the trading day the market price moves continuously while the last official NAV is from the previous close. Any premium/discount computed during the day is therefore indicative. We label it that way and show both timestamps.
Where our NAV comes from
Daily NAV history on this site comes from the Nasdaq NAV symbols (for example the NAV of a fund with ticker ABC is published under XABCX), supplemented by the NAV facts that funds tag in their SEC filings. Where a fund has no daily NAV feed we say so rather than estimate one.
