Distribution rates and classification

Regular vs special, annualisation, trailing yields, and change detection.

Regular annualised distribution = latest regular payment × frequency multiplier (monthly 12, quarterly 4, semi-annual 2, annual 1). Frequency is inferred from the median gap between the last 13 ex-dates and cross-checked with the vendor’s label.

Rate on price divides by the latest market price; rate on NAV by the latest NAV. Trailing 12-month yield sums payments with ex-dates in the past 12 months ÷ price, shown with and without specials.

ReinvestCapture™ rate = regular rate on price × (NAV ÷ price). It is the asset value a year of reinvested regular distributions buys, expressed as a percentage of the price paid: above the payout rate when the fund trades at a discount, below it at a premium. It is stored as a database-generated column from the same price and NAV pair shown on the fund page, so it can never disagree with them, and it is blank when either the regular rate or the NAV is unavailable. It is a buying-power measure, not a return and not a sustainability measure.

Special inference. Where the sponsor has not classified a payment, a payment is marked special (inferred) when it deviates by more than 50% from the median of its neighbouring payments and is either off-cycle (gap under 60% of the expected interval) or a year-end payment larger than the regular amount. A payment on the regular cycle that exceeds its neighbours while the payments either side agree with each other, or any payment at least triple its neighbours, is also inferred special: a one-off, not a change in the regular rate. An outsized jump on the newest payment is provisional and treated as special until the next payment confirms the level, so a regular rate is never overstated on the strength of one payment; cuts apply immediately. Reclassification rebuilds the fund's change events from scratch. Sponsor or admin classifications override inference. Specials are never annualised.

Changes. An increase or reduction is recorded when consecutive regular payments differ by 0.5% or more.

Composition (income, gains, return of capital) is shown only from sponsor notices or tax characterisations; estimates are labelled as estimates. This feed is not yet automated — see the feature-status page.
